1. Intense Pain
Severe pain is one of the hallmark symptoms of kidney stones. The pain typically occurs in the back or side, below the ribs, and can radiate to the lower abdomen and groin. The pain may come and go in waves and is often described as excruciating.
2. Hematuria (Blood in Urine)
The presence of blood in the urine (hematuria) is a common symptom of kidney stones. The urine may appear pink, red, or brown, indicating that there is bleeding somewhere in the urinary tract.
3. Frequent Urination and Urgency
Individuals with kidney stones may experience an increased frequency of urination and a sense of urgency to urinate. However, the volume of urine may be small due to obstruction caused by the stone.
4. Cloudy or Foul-Smelling Urine
Kidney stones can lead to changes in urine color and odor. Cloudy or foul-smelling urine may be a sign of infection or the presence of minerals and substances that contribute to stone formation.
5. Nausea and Vomiting:
Some people with kidney stones may experience nausea and vomiting. These symptoms can be a result of the severe pain or may be related to associated complications such as urinary tract infections.
